Guided Walks

New for 2020! I’m going to be doing a number of guided walks – keep an eye on my Eventbrite page for details and to book tickets.

Leading a Ghost Walk for Wakefield Civic Society

UPDATE: In view of the current situation regarding Coronavirus/Covid-19, I have decided to cancel the March and April guided walks listed below. I will be contacting all those who have booked tickets to organise a refund. Please bear with me as I do this.

It is likely that the May Art Deco walk will also have to be re-arranged but I’ll leave things as they are for now, just in case the situation improves over the next few weeks.

However, I would like to think that this is more about events being postponed rather than cancelled outright and I look forward to welcoming people back to my walks which I hope to reschedule at a later date.

Until then, stay safe, keep well and many thanks for your support and understanding.

The Carnival of the Animals – CANCELLED

The Carnival of the Animals: discovering the birds, beasts and grotesqueries of Wakefield – Thursday & Friday evenings 26th & 27th March

Art Deco Wakefield – CANCELLED

Art Deco Wakefield: Take a tour of Wakefield’s Art Deco architecture on Wednesday evening, 8th April or Tuesday evening, 19th May.

On this walk, we’ll look at how Wakefield city centre developed in the 1920s and 1930s. While some buildings are clearly in the Art Deco style of the time, others are typical examples of the neo-classical revivalist style that became popular, particularly for public buildings, in the 1930s.

We will look at how Edwardian design morphed into Deco and how the Deco influence of the 20s and 30s continued into the 1940s and even into the 50s.

With around 30 points of interest, the walk will last around 90 minutes to two hours. The cost is £4 per person including booking fee.

The walk will be offered on the following dates:

Wednesday, 8th April, starting at 6.30pm - CANCELLED
Tuesday, 19th May, starting at 6.30pm - CANCELLED

Keep an eye out for further dates and titles.
